Harmeet Dhillon made an appearance at America Fest (AmFest) 2024, the annual event hosted by Turning Point, USA, in Phoenix, Arizona. Dhillon’s long and storied career has been one marked by victories and hard fought battles for individual civil rights.
Her comments at AmFest, which were dutifully reserved prior to her confirmation by the Senate, still provided a vision shared by most of the America First movement.
Dhillon said that she believes parents have a federal civil right to raise their children. Children, said Dhillon, also have civil rights. Both statements are accurate ones of law as SCOTUS has previously held that both are unenumerated constitutional rights.
Dhillon also stated that she believed all Americans had a civil right to have their vote counted accurately, and only once, and to have that same right extended and enforced among others. Dillon’s statements come in the background of renewed calls to investigate the 2020 elections among continued doubts of its accruacy as well as the RNC’s push for same-day voting and paper ballots.
Though Dhillon was careful to not say that election integrity was an absolute matter to be enforced as a civil right, it left the proposition open as Trump’s new administration takes control.
