AmericaFest (AmFest) 2024 started its third day with a series of presentations about issues affecting conservative voters, including one which detailed Turning Point’s GOTV efforts in the 2024 Presidential election. Matthew Martinez, Strategic Manager at Turning Point Action, Inc.[1] (TPA), explained his methodology to target conservative and independent voters.

Martinez called TPA’s effort the “moneyball of politics” after the 2011 movie Moneyball starring Jonah Hill, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and Brad Pitt about the use of mathematics and sabermetrics to recruit players to fill the roster according to a targeted statistical methodology. The concept in the movie was best actualized beginning in 2011 by the Houston Astros.

On the political end of the spectrum, Martinez targeted newly registered voters, those who had previously been inactive, and voters who TPA had determined to be conservative or independent. After using a mathematical equation, TPA was able to identify target voters and deploy its methodology to activate those voters to cast ballots for Republican candidates.

Unlike  progressives in Wisconsin in 2020, TPA did not attempt to gain API access to proprietary state voting databases, embed and become employees of the voting division of the city clerks, or target voters based on race or ethnicity.  Instead, TPA’s efforts were much more reasonable and grounded in common sense.

TPA assigned leaders and volunteers to specific neighborhoods and communities.  Once deployed, TPA worked to identify and integrate with the community and its residents.  TPA provided outreach, support, and education about the voting process, how to vote, and important information to ensure that votes are counted.  TPA also gave away American flags.

TPA’s remarkable effort to be a friend to residents of target rich voting environments appears to have had the desired effect.  TPA’s actions are credited with helping swing Arizona back to Trump in the November 2024 election.

TPA has resources available for many states and expressed a willingness to replicate its moneyball approach in those states.  For more information reach out to Matthew Martinez at moc.noitcaptobfsctd-1ec098@wehttam.
