Kitty Strikes Back
In this column, I explore how kitty barf is a lot like some of the policies and actions of the Republican Party of Arkansas. I assure you; they are alike. When the RPA goes into shady mode, it is a lot like a sick and unhappy cat. In the previous column, we delved into how kitty got a hairball and what happened next.
Now, having partially recovered, the kitty strikes back.
I think of the time my daughters’ cat (not my cat—I don’t even like cats), got into my upstairs office. I called for one of my daughters to come get the beast. It did not happen fast enough, so I offered to expedite the process by chunking the cat out the second story window.
To my youngest daughter, I reasoned that cats always land on their feet, have nine lives, and this meant that kitty would be fine. Kitty was promptly removed from my office without having to enjoy its free flying lessons.
So goes the RPA. Seeing its weaknesses as the patriot faction came to power, it did one of the only things it could—it made appointments to the executive committee. Welcome yes-man and yes-woman, please come in and take one of the plushy chairs. And once you take your chair, please spin, spin, and spin just like the media stories and newsletters the RPA puts out.
How to ensure their hack gets into every rule review? Appoint one to chair the rules committee. What about the Governor’s interests in the RPA? Send in lobbyists to aid Joseph Wood as chair. Add a lobbyist here, sprinkle a hack there. Here a lobbyist, there a hack, everywhere a hack-jack.
Kitty may think it’s fun to spring on your toes when you are not looking. However, from the foot comes the boot. Kitty is about to have another bad day because kitty does not do what’s best for those who feed it.
Life lessons are hard, and more kitty barf is on the horizon.
