High school graduates Anna and Ian Burnett have captured the literary world’s attention with their recently released children’s book, “The Queen of Spotland,” which focuses on traditional conservative values, including faith and strong family bonds, and also manages to climb to the #1 spot on Amazon’s Children’s Multicultural Books bestseller list in January. This remarkable achievement underscores the talents and creativity of these young authors.

“The Queen of Spotland” tells the enchanting story within a story of a grandmother reading a book about Dalmatians from the Kingdom of Spotland together with her young grandchildren. With its captivating narrative and vibrant illustrations, the book celebrates themes of faith, family, friendship, diversity, resilience, acceptance, forgiveness, and the importance of being a responsible pet owner. Anna and Ian’s debut work has touched the hearts of readers of all ages, making it a must-read for families seeking quality children’s literature with strong values.

The twin brother and sister, who have just graduated from their charter school early this school year, began their collaboration on “The Queen of Spotland” as a small story about their family pet Dalmatian, Becky, back in 2017. The project grew with encouragement of their parents and teachers and later blossomed into a full-fledged publication due to co-authorship with Ukrainian American writer Hannah T. Petryk.

“We are beyond thrilled to see our book reach this level of success,” said Anna Burnett. “It’s been an incredible journey, and we hope our story inspires other young authors to follow their dreams,” added Ian Burnett. The teens also expressed their utmost gratitude for the successful collaboration with their Ukrainian co-author. “Hannah is an amazing writer. She taught us a lot about the history and theory of literature in the process. Also, it is thanks to her that we were able to reflect more on our heritage and include insights into Ukrainian culture in the story, too.”

“We think the story has been so well received by our readers because although the messages and values it shares are universal, the ways they are reflected in the book are new. ‘The Queen of Spotland’ is a perfect gift for children, as our main goal was to inspire thoughtful and fun intergenerational conversations, to build stronger bonds within families of our readers, discuss the importance of free will, faith, and resilience.”

The twins have already been admitted to the university of their first choice, which they will begin attending in Fall 2025. Meanwhile, they are busy meeting with their young readers at schools and libraries throughout the country.
