New State Bathroom Law Part II….Do Transgenders Have An Argument ?….My Take is No….They Do Not.

Basically, what the law says is that in Government buildings, to enter a men’s restroom, changing room and so on you have to be a male and to enter a women’s restroom, changing room and so on you have to be a female.

Is the overall issue simple ?….Yes and No.
Should there have been accommodations in the law ?
Does this law put some Transgenders in danger ?
Why was the House not solidly in favor of Act 955 ?
Choices have consequences, right ?
Okay here we go.
Let me start by saying if you want to live your life pretending you are a woman or a man that’s your choice.
As long as you are not breaking laws or causing harm then knock yourself out.
If you are man who wishes your name to be Bertha, then I’ll call you Bertha….If you are a woman who wishes your name to be Earl then I’ll call you Earl.
If you are a good person who does good things, then I’ll be nice and I’ll be your friend. If I see someone being ugly to you because you are simply a transgender, then I’ll take up for you just as I would anybody else.
What I won’t do is pretend you are something that you are not….Not gonna happen.
Why were Republicans in the House not solidly in favor of Act 955 ?
The bill passed with only Sixty votes with Fourteen Republicans not voting for it.
Was that because the testimony against the bill persuaded the Fourteen not to vote for it ?….Or were they put out because the bill had no teeth in it ?….That it’s basically a placebo ?
I can’t answer that question….but it is interesting that it only got 60 votes.
Is the overall issue simple ?….Yes and No.
Yes, in the sense that the law states men are to use men’s bathrooms and women are to use women’s bathrooms….Doesn’t get any simpler right ?
However not so simple when you factor in some realities.
Take Keon Anderson for example.
I met Keon on April 15th at the State Capitol where she….that’s right I said she….testified against the then Bill when it was in committee.

Keon testified at the 5:40:00 mark.
I was there at the committee meeting and listened to Keon announce she was a woman and talk about some of the realities of her choosing to be a transgender. I then spoke with her in the hall about them after the meeting.
It was a good conversation, and I liked Keno. She was nice and like me….Very direct.
Keon stated she has “hormonally transitioned”
Well, you can’t transition from being a woman to a man no matter how many hormones you take….That’s not being disrespectful to anyone that’s just stating a fact.
However, there is no way I would have known Keon was a woman had she not announced that fact.
Evelyn Stafford is a Justice of the Peace in Washington County.
I met Evelyn a few days before the April 15th committee meeting during another committee meeting at the Capitol. Evelyn impressed me as being smart and nice.
While testifying against the bathroom bill Evelyn announced he is a man….I never would have even thought it.

Here’s a reality –
Keno can go in a men’s bathroom, and no one will know she is a woman….Eveyln can go in a women’s bathroom, and no one will know he is a man…..You reverse that and the same is true only now you add chaos.
Now you’ve gone from what should be simple math to trigonometry….So how did it get there ?
Well Keno, Eveyln and others like them took it there….That’s not picking on them that’s just stating a fact.
Does the new law put transgenders in danger ?
That was a consistent argument made by opposition to the bill and Democrats in the House….but is that true ?
While Keno and I were talking, she pointed across the hall to a woman’s bathroom and said if she walked in there, she would be in danger….I agreed with her.
I told her if she had not announced to me that she was in fact a woman and walked into a bathroom behind my wife, that I would have come in there and dragged her out….And I wouldn’t be wrong in doing it.
Even knowing Keno is actually a woman doesn’t make me feel better and I assure you it doesn’t make my wife feel better either.
That fact is Keno going into a woman’s bathroom can put her in danger and Evylen going in man’s bathroom can put him in danger but let’s be clear….The law didn’t cause that….Keon and Evylen caused that.
The law does not make them pretend to be what they are not.
Should there be accommodations in the law ?
In speaking with Keon and Evylen that day both felt there should be.
That government should be mandated under law to ensure that buildings and facilities provide ample single occupancy bathrooms to accommodate transgenders.
Okay…..So what is the justification for those accommodations ?
Why should my tax dollars go to accommodate people living out a fantasy ?
When I was a young man, I fantasized about dunking a basketball….Should government be forced by law to lower all basketball goals to 6 feet at gyms and parks so I can live out my fantasy ?
Of course not….A fantasy is not a need.
Making bathrooms handicap accessible is a need….Making bathrooms transgender accessible is not.
Choices have consequences, right ?
Drinking alcohol is a choice….Smoking dope is a choice….Taking opioids is a choice….Eating high fat foods is a choice….And yes pretending to be a man or woman when you are not is a choice.
All of them have consequences…. Don’t whine when you have to deal with them.
Like I said in the beginning….I’ll respect your right to live your life pretending to be what you are not….I hope you will respect my right to not pretend with you.
