On Saturday April 26th Fayetteville PD Patrol Officer Harrison Hudspeth initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Senator Gary Stubblefield of Branch, Arkansas in Franklin County.

Harrison’s stated reasons for stopping Stubblefield were that the license plate did not match the vehicle, Stubblefield was driving with his wipers on, along with improper lane usage and going 10 mph under the speed limit.

Within the first minute of interaction with Officer Harrison, it was clear Stubblefield was under some type of impairment.

When Harrison asked for Stubblefield’s I.D. and registration, the Senator handed Harrison the vehicle keys….It went downhill from there.

Stubblefield then spent several minutes looking in his billfold thinking his registration was in it….obviously it was not.

Officer DP White arrived on scene and Harrison informed him of the situation and also informed him that Stubblefield was a State Senator. White then called their supervisor, Sergeant Anderson.

Hudspeth asked Stubblefield if he had been drinking and Stubblefield responded that he does not drink.

Hudspeth then administered a field sobriety test to Stubblefield and the results can only be described as a complete failure.

Sergeant Anderson arrived on scene where Hudspeth informed him of what was going on. Hudspeth stated to Anderson that “I believe he is intoxicated” along with “All signs point to intoxicated.”

Toward the end of the conversation, Anderson got a call on his cell. While retreating to answer it, he turned his body camera off.

A few minutes later Anderson returns to the Officers and Stubblefield, turning his body camera back on. He then quizzes Stubblefield stating to the Senator “I just want to make sure that you are obviously okay to drive.”….Something that could not be further from the truth.

Anderson again turned his body camera off and retreated back towards his patrol unit.

A few minutes later, Anderson approached Stubblefield and the Officers, turning his Body Camera back on. He told the Senator that he did not feel like it was safe for him to drive today.

Officer Hudspeth was able to get in touch with Stubblefield’s wife to see if she could come get him. It was going to take some time to get there, so eventually the decision was then made for Hudspeth to take Stubblefield to his hotel.

Once at the hotel Stubblefield was still clearly in a state of confusion thinking that he still had a room when in reality he had already checked out earlier. Stubblefield stated all he wanted to do was take a nap.

The lady at the desk told Stubblefield he could wait for his wife in the lobby and was welcome to take a nap on the couch.

Hudspeth then talked to Mrs. Stubblefield again by phone after which he left the scene.

Earlier today I called Senator Stubblefield but did not get an answer. I left him a voice mail and texted him asking to visit about the incident….I have not gotten a response yet.

The question of whether Senator Stubblefield was intoxicated or was having a medical / mental issue, I can’t answer.

What I can say is that, for whatever reason, he was extremely confused. If that was caused by a medical / mental issue, then my prayers go out to him.

As for the Fayetteville PD, many questions remain.

Why did Anderson keep turning his body camera off and on ?….He was calling someone….Who and Why ?

Why was no breathalyzer test administered ?….Hudspeth clearly stated he believed Stubblefield was intoxicated.

If the belief was that the Senator was experiencing a medical episode, then why was EMS not called to the scene ?….Anderson clearly believed Stubblefield was too impaired to drive right?….Was it then prudent to just drop him off at the hotel in his condition ?    God forbid that Stubblefield experience a grave medical event for lack of medical attention…. so many things could have gone wrong.

What if this were you or me ?….Would we have been administered a breathalyzer test ?….Would those calls have been made ?….Were actions or non-actions taken because Stubblefield is a State Senator ?

Were PD Policies followed on this Incident ?

I intend to find the answers to these very questions and bring them to you in a follow up.

While a spotlight is still on Senator Stubblefield, the big one is on Fayetteville PD.

  1. He’s not intoxicated, it’s medically related and I think the office and Sargent realized that.

  2. Arkansas for Freedom

WE THE PEOPLE DEMAND A PUBLIC APOLOGY — AND ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THIS SHAMEFUL SMEAR JOB ON SENATOR GARY STUBBLEFIELD
Let’s not beat around the bush. Jimmie Cavin LIED. Arkansas 1st News published those lies. And together, they launched a disgusting, deliberate, and politically motivated character assassination attempt on Senator Gary Stubblefield — a man fighting to protect Arkansas from the corrupt prison scheme being pushed by Governor Sanders and her cronies.
Now that the truth is out, let’s be crystal clear:
    Senator Stubblefield did NOTHING wrong.
    He was NOT drinking.
    He was NOT arrested.
He was NOT impaired — except from missing medication related to ongoing health issues, which he voluntarily disclosed.
But did Cavin care about the facts? NO.
Did he wait for a statement? NO.
Did he do any real reporting? Absolutely not.
Instead, Jimmie Cavin — a wannabe journalist and full-time liar — ran to the internet with a hit piece soaked in innuendo and deception. And Arkansas 1st News, like amateurs chasing a headline, pushed it without vetting a damn thing. They didn’t care about truth. They cared about clicks and pushing the Sanders/Vanir agenda — an agenda Stubblefield has had the guts to stand up to.
    Well, WE SEE THROUGH IT.
    And WE ARE PISSED.
Jimmie Cavin is no “professional bully fighter.” He IS the bully.
    He’s no journalist — he’s a political tool.
A liar. A fraud. And no different than Joe “Pinocchio” Profiri or Sarah “Trust Me” Sanders — Arkansas’ top-tier trio of deception.
Let’s call it what it is:
A calculated lie designed to destroy a man for daring to speak truth to power.
Arkansas for Freedom DEMANDS the following:
    • A MAJOR PUBLIC APOLOGY from Jimmie Cavin to Senator Gary Stubblefield and the people of Arkansas.
    • A MAJOR PUBLIC APOLOGY from Arkansas 1st News for publishing such reckless, slanderous trash.
    • That Arkansas 1st News immediately and permanently CUT TIES with Jimmie Cavin — a proven liar who cannot ever be trusted again.
We the people will NOT tolerate this. We will NOT forgive it. And we will NEVER forget it.
From now on, anything coming out of Arkansas 1st News will be double and triple fact-checked before we share a single word. Because you blew your credibility. You gave your platform to a political hitman. You allowed your name to be dragged through the mud alongside his. And you should be ashamed.
This wasn’t journalism. It was sabotage.
It wasn’t reporting. It was betrayal.
And we DENOUNCE Jimmie Cavin as a liar, plain and simple.
We will not rest until apologies are made, trust is rebuilt, and the corrupt mouthpieces for this prison project — Cavin, Profiri, and Sanders — are exposed for who and what they really are.
    Lying dogs.
    Puppets of power.
    Enemies of truth.
    WE STAND WITH SENATOR STUBBLEFIELD.
    WE STAND FOR TRUTH.
    WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED.

    1. Yeah, well see that’s not gonna happen.

At Arkansas 1st News we stand on Truth and Facts and we don’t get intimidated…. Especially from someone who doesn’t have the courage to state their name.

If that burns your ass my suggestion is to sit on a bag of ice.

  3. Arkansas for Freedom

Gary Stubblefield statement on social media:
In reference to the incident on April 26th, 2025 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. I would like to clarify the actual events. I was at a reunion with fellow Razorbacks. I was on my way home Saturday morning when I was pulled over by a police officer for getting too close to the yellow line. After a discussion of why I was pulled over, they realized I was not drinking or intoxicated. I offered to take a sobriety test to prove I was not drinking. They then said there was no need for it. I then explained to them I am on a medication and have been for over a year for some health issues I’ve been dealing with for several years. I missed two days of my medication and it hindered me. They offered to take me back to the hotel where I stayed. They then called my wife and she and my daughter picked me up at the hotel. There were no issues and and the policemen were very kind, considerate, and accommodating as were the hotel staff. Within a day of being on my medication, everything was back to normal and has been since.

I find it interesting and not a coincidence that the timing of this incident is at the time we are fighting a nasty battle over a prison being put in my district. A fight that won’t end here. This will not stop me! Period. Thank you to all who have shown support, encouragement, and understanding. Senator Gary Stubblefield

    1. The facts about Senator Stubblefield’s statement.

My Conversation With State Senator Stubblefield About The Incident With Fayetteville PD.
Yesterday Arkansas 1st News published my article detailing the Incident. If you have not read it, here is the link –
      https://arkansas1st.com/…/body-camera-video-shows…/
I called, leaving a voice mail, and texted Stubblefield over 3 hours before publishing to get a statement but got no response.
The article is factual and I challenge anyone to point out where they believe it isn’t.
Last night around 11:30pm Senator Stubblefield posted a statement on his Facebook page about the incident and article….That statement is attached.
This morning, I called Stubblefield again and left a message…. A short time later he called me back.
We had a great conversation that lasted for right at an hour.
We talked about country life, football and of course the incident.
While I never asked Senator Stubblefield, he said to feel free to share what he expressed….Very rare and refreshing to see that from someone in his position.
In a very nice way, he said that he wished I would have talked to him before publishing the article because what I put in it was not factual.
I asked him if he read the article, and he said no he had not but had gotten a call from a lady about it.
Okay I’m trying to figure out how someone can say what’s in an article is not factual when they have not even read it.
I explained that I did call and text him before publishing the article. However, he said he didn’t see them, which is fine….I don’t catch all my calls and texts.
He then went into explaining that he has medical condition that causes his ammonia level to spike which causes what he described as “brain fog”.
Stubblefield said he takes medication for the condition. If he doesn’t take the medication, then he experiences this brain fog and that is what was happening that caused the traffic stop.
He went on to describe what took place during the stop and started by saying that two units were behind him and pulled him over.
He said he had never heard or seen that happen before….The body camera videos show that not to be the case. Officer Hudspeth initiated the stop and Officer White arrived to back him up 3 minutes later.
Stubblefield said the Officers asked him if he had been drinking and he responded no that he doesn’t drink.
He then stated the Officers said “We know you’re not drinking….we could smell it on you a mile away if you were.”….The officers never said anything like that.
Stubblefield then said that when Hudspeth and his wife were talking on the phone, she asked him to look in the Senator’s bag and see if a bottle with clear liquid was in it. He said the bottle contains his medicine to control his ammonia level.
Stubblefield then said Hudspeth responded with “Sure is and its full.” He said his wife then responded with “That’s the problem.”
The body camera footage shows that Hudspeth and Mrs. Stubblefield had two phone conversations….Neither contained that exchange nor anything like it.
If you are wondering why Stubblefield is stating things that clearly didn’t happen, well there is a reason for that….And it isn’t that he was lying.
It was at that point I asked him if he had watched the body camera footage. His response was “No I haven’t seen any.”
Stubblefield was going off memory of the Incident at which time he was in a clearly confused and impaired state of mind….Of course he’s not going to remember what actually took place.
If you have not seen the body camera video here is the link –
      https://youtu.be/iI4Y6Xw_sI8?si=yM0Bhr4r6uSDo214
In his statement Stubblefield said “I offered to take a sobriety test to prove I was not drinking. They then said there was no need for it.”….The body camera video proves that to have not been the case at all.
I then said to him “Do you realize you did take a field sobriety test ?”
His response was “Field Sobriety Test…What are you talking about ?”
I explained what a FST was and he said he did remember walking for the Officer.
We continued to talk about the incident and Stubblefield stated that “5 minutes after I handed him my keys the whole thing was over.”
I then told him the incident lasted and hour and a half with him responding “No way it did…no way it lasted an hour and a half.”….The fact is that it did.
Again Senator Stubblefield was trying to go off memory when he was in a confused and impaired state of mind.
Several times during the conversation I urged Stubblefield to sit down with friends and family to watch the body camera footage….For his benefit I hope he does.
As you can tell parts of the conversation were not easy to have while other parts were really enjoyable.
If you read the article from yesterday then you know the focus isn’t that much about Senator Stubblefield as it is about the Fayetteville PD and how they dealt with the incident.
While Stubblefield truly never knew it was happening, he was given preferential treatment because he is a State Senator….Body camera footage proves that.
Besides policy and procedure issues, dropping Stubblefield off, in a confused and impaired state, at a hotel lobby for him to wait for his wife to drive from near Charleston in Franklin County to pick him up put him in Danger….That is a fact.
As I said yesterday I’m digging in on the Fayetteville PD and if that or my article yesterday pisses anyone off….I don’t care….Period.

  4. Alford Drinkwater

The videos do not appear to prove intoxication. The sobriety tests are not shown. A senior moment combined with medication and fatigue??? Not defending him but this appears to have been handled well by police. Yeah, and maybe I wouldn’t have gotten that great treatment that the Senator received but those videos could be used as training videos for the police. 😁

    1. The body cam footage of the FST’s have been published, and they are the worst failures I have ever seen- The only thing he didn’t do wrong is fall over.
