Last Sunday, I brought you the story that Superintendent Terry Morawski was recommending the School Board terminate Northside High School English teacher Robert Taylor.
In that interview with Taylor, we took the matter A to Z on what happened.

The recommendation comes from Taylor using the book “Warriors Don’t Cry” in a lesson plan.
The book was authored by Melba Pattillo Beals who was one of the Little Rock Nine. The book details her experiences as one of the nine Black students integrating Little Rock Central High School in 1957.
The issue is that the book contains a quote from the author about when she was being attacked by a mob. It read – “The nigger is down !” as shouted by White students.
The notice of Termination states that Taylor violated Policy with his actions
Now back on February 13th, after the “so called” incident, Taylor was put on Administrative Leave pending outcome of an investigation.
The District put out the following statement –
“The use of such language – whether in speech, writing, or any other form – is completely unacceptable and does not reflect the values of the District. FSPS is taking immediate action to address the situation. The district is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all students and staff. FSPS sincerely apologized to Northside students, families and the community for this incident and the harm it may have caused.”
Unacceptable ???….Doesn’t reflect the values ????….Apologized ???
What if I told you that I can prove, through a Freedom of Information request, that the District currently uses one Text Book and has seven Library books that use the N-word spelled out hundreds of times ?….And those are just the ones I requested records on.
The Textbook – Literature Grade 11 – by Holt McDougal is used in 11th grade English classes at the two High Schools in Fort Smith….Northside and Southside.
It covers a collection of literary works in which five of them use the N-word spelled out.
A Rose for Emily, William Faulkner – “It’s probably just a snake or rat that nigger of hers killed in the yard.”
Life of My Child is Simple Primer for Blacks, Gwendolyn Brooks – “ALL of you – you proper Blacks, you Half-Blacks, you wish-I-weren’t Blacks. Niggeroes and Niggerenses.”
Coming of Age In Mississippi, Anne Moody – “Which one should I get first ?…a big husky boy said…That White nigger…The old man said.”
Letter From Birmingham Jail, MLK Jr – “When your first name becomes nigger…your middle name becomes boy.”
Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Harriet Jacobs – “If I find out any of my niggers had anything to do with this damned business, I’ll give’em five hundred lashes.”
Now as far as the Library books –
John Steinbeck‘s of “Of Mice and Men” contains the use of the N-word 16 times.
Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” contains more than 200 references of the N-word.
Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” contains four references of the N-word.
F Scott Fitzgerald‘s “The Great Gatsby” uses the N-word one time.
Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” uses the N-word more than 40 times.
Maya Angelou’s “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” contains multiple uses of the N-word.
Ralph Ellison’s “The Invisible Man” contains more than 100 uses of the N-word.
So if Morawski believes the use of “Warriors Don’t Cry” in a lesson plan “is completely unacceptable and does not reflect the values of the District” then how are the eight books I referenced acceptable ?….How do they reflect values of the District ?….Can you smell the Hypocrisy ?
Now if Taylor is guilty of violating Policy, (which he’s not), then wouldn’t Morawski be guilty as well over the eight books I referenced ?….He’s the Superintendent right ?
And what about the Assistant Superintendents ?….The Director of Secondary Education, (who is Black),?….The Principals ?….The other 11th grade English Teachers ?….and all of the Library staff ?
If Taylor is up for termination, shouldn’t all these folks be as well ?….Makes sense right ?….Of course it does !
Let’s talk about Reality….Let’s talk about how Morawski and the District got out over their skis on this.
When the complaint was made about the lesson plan, instead of doing what a prudent individual would do by taking time to get all the facts before taking any action, Morawski instead relied on unsubstantiated hearsay and immediately dropped Taylor in a public meat grinder.
District Policy 3.36 —LICENSED PERSONNEL RENEWAL AND TERMINATION, states –“The superintendent is empowered to make a recommendation to terminate an employee’s employment contract to the Board for an employee’s violation of District policies; State or Federal laws; State Rules; or Federal regulations.”
Morawski is not alleging Taylor violated any State Laws, State Rules or Federal regulations….He is alleging Taylor violated Policy 3.27 —LICENSED PERSONNEL SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS.
That Policy states – “All District personnel are expected to conscientiously execute their responsibilities to promote the health, safety, and welfare of the District’s students under their care. The Superintendent shall direct all principals to establish regulations ensuring faculty supervision of students throughout the school day and at extracurricular activities.” Reference: ASBA Model Policies Date Adopted: 2/24/2020
Okay….That means Taylor would have had to violate the “regulations” established by the Northside Principal, right ?
Well, me being me, I requested the Directive from Morawski to Northside Principal Chris Carter to establish those regulations along with the regulations themselves.
Guess what ?….The District replied the Directive nor the Regulations exist….Huh ?….Imagine that.
How can Taylor violate the regulations in the Policy 3.27 when they do not even exist ?
The Reality and Fact is that Taylor didn’t violate the Policy, which means per District Policy 3.36, Taylor has done nothing that warrants termination.
However, Morawski violated Policy 3.27 by not giving the Directive and Carter violated 3.27 by not establishing the Regulations.
It’s clear to me that Reality and Facts don’t matter to Morawski….Something he has shown me a pattern of.
From my viewpoint Morawski had a knee jerk reaction without doing his due diligence and began to assassinate Taylor’s character and reputation without cause.
Instead of admitting he got out over his skis , like a Man would do, he has doubled down by recommending Taylor be terminated by the School Board.
He has gone from trying to assassinate Taylor’s character and reputation to mutilating it.
The good news is Taylor and his attorney Joey McCutchen will be defending against Morawski’s recommendation before the School Board in a Hearing on March 31st.
What’s cool about that is, this will be a Public Hearing where anyone can attend or watch it live streamed.
I’m told McCutchen intends to call a lot of People to testify including Morawski, so ice down the beer and get the popcorn ready.
The only question now is will the Board vote off Reality and Facts….or will they join Morawski and the mob in the mutilation ?
