Cortney Kennedy is Governor Sanders Chief Legal Counsel. She also serves on the Conway Civil Service Commission. Her husband is Tom Kennedy a Lieutenant with the Conway Police Department.

Last Sunday August 10th, I brought you the story of the documented harassment of Patrol Officer Brittany Bryd by LT. Kennedy back in September 2023. I made the point that Kennedy appeared to have some sort of vendetta against Bryd….Has that now turned into a family affair ?

Court records show that on the morning of June 30th of this year, Officer Bryd was issued a termination letter from Chief Chris Harris based off an Administrative Inquiry investigation headed by….you guessed it…. LT. Kennedy.

Bryd filed an appeal of that termination with the Conway Civil Service Commission that same morning at 10:34am. The Commission will hear that appeal this coming Wednesday August 20th.

The Commission serves as both Judge and Jury for the Hearing….Cortney Kennedy is on that Commission.

Do you see a conflict ?….Cortney doesn’t.

On July 3rd Bryd’s attorney, Robert Newcomb, filed a motion with the Commission requesting Cortney to recuse herself from the Hearing.

Cortney clearly anticipated that request coming because she filed a response to the motion with the Commission that same day refusing to recuse.

Last Wednesday Bryd’s attorneys filed another motion with the Commission. Citing Arkansas Attorney General Opinion 93-446 and case law in an AR Supreme Court ruling Beed v State, the motion requested Chairman, Mike Mason, to disqualify Cortney if she doesn’t voluntarily step down….No response from Mason yet.

I spoke with Cortney by phone today and she showed no signs of stepping down. When I asked why she would not recuse, her response was “I’m not gonna comment.”

Interview with Cortney –

Now from what I can see there is nothing legally requiring her to recuse…. However common-sense Ethics, Morals and Decency do….Apparently those three things don’t come into play with Cortney.

So here we are….The man who investigated Officer Bryd has a documented history of harassing her….He is the prosecution’s top witness….He is married to a woman on the Judge and Jury panel….and that woman sees no conflict of interest ???

If anybody out there thinks that’s okay, I gotta here your reasoning.

One thing is for sure….The Conway Kennedys are quite “Clinton-esque”.
