Murdock, who lives in Marianna, Lee County, represents Senate District 9 in the State Legislature.
On July 25th of this year, Murdock was stopped in Saint Francis County by Sheriff’s Deputy Rick Thorne for doing 80-mph in a 55-mph zone.

Thorne’s body camera captured the entire event.

When Thorne asked Murdock for his driver’s license, Murdock handed him not only that but also his State Senator ID card….Hmmm….I wonder why ?
Thorne, without hesitation, immediately handed the ID card back to Murdock and then went to his patrol vehicle and began filling out the citation for speeding.
When he returned to Murdock’s vehicle to issue him the citation, Murdock was on the phone with Saint Francis County Sheriff Bobby May.

Murdock handed the phone to Thorne stating, “Bobby May wants to talk to you.”
During the conversation Thorne stated to May “He’s been pulled over a hundred times but I’ll give him a warning but he’s been pulled over a hundred times.”
Thorne’s statement paints a pretty clear picture wouldn’t you agree ?
After a little more conversation, Thorne sent Murdock on his way and then voided the citation.

I interviewed Murdock by phone on Friday and it was interesting to say the least.
Murdock said that he didn’t know that he gave Thorne his State Senator ID Card until Thorne gave it back to him….Huh….Early dementia perhaps ???
Murdock also said he called Sheriff May not to get out of the ticket, but to apologize for the infraction….Perfectly understandable right ?….I mean doesn’t everyone call the Sheriff or Chief when they are pulled over to apologize ?
I promised Senator Murdock I would include everything he said in the interview so here is the entire recording…. Some things you have to hear to believe.
5–52–107. Abuse of office states –
(a) A person commits the offense of abuse of office if, being a public servant, or being a person elected, appointed, or otherwise designated to become a public servant although not yet occupying that position, and with the purpose of benefiting in a pecuniary fashion or obtaining a sexual favor for himself or herself or another person or of harming another person, the person knowingly:
(1) Commits an unauthorized act which purports to be an act of his or her office.
Pecuniary is defined as – “relating to or consisting of money.”
Maybe it’s just me but I’d say this qualifies.
Now it’s clear Senator Murdock disagrees with me on that….but then some people still deny the world is round right ?
PS – Big shout out the Saint Francis County Sheriff’s Office for being transparent in providing me the records.

I guess he will ‘skate’ again. He had some nefarious dealing with the St. Francis public schools recently too, which you covered well, but I haven’t seen anything else about that. He is term limited as senator, but now rumors are he will run for Marianna mayor, which is NOT good.
He apologized but also “acquired” a pass from the Sheriff. Whether the gift was solicited or just placed in his shopping basket does not matter. The deputy was going to charge him but the Sheriff’s gift allowed him to checkout without paying. It was a gift and it was solicited by the out of place phone call regardless of the exact words used in the call. He walked out without paying. The price of a watermelon is one thing, but the price of shoplifting is something else.
We would all love to get a “pass” however that will never happen. I don’t care who you are if you’re consistently getting pulled over for speeding and never receiving a ticket. This is wrong. I guess it’s public record but his name, address, birthday, and drivers license number were all published in the article. Hmmmm.
