Former Fort Smith Northside Coach Files Racial Discrimination Suit Against The District….Are The Facts Black & White ?

Fort Smith School District has two high schools, Fort Smith Northside and Fort Smith Southside.
After the 2021 football season, Felix Curry was named Head Football Coach at Northside, becoming the first Black head football coach in the District’s history….That title only lasted three seasons.
Beginning on December 11th of 2024, I brought you a series of four articles on how Curry was basically terminated as Head Coach.
On November 22nd, 2024, Curry was called in by Assistant Superintendent Chris Davis, (pictured), and Athletic Director Michael Beaumont where he was told that his contract would not be renewed. He was then reassigned from Football to monitoring a detention hall until his contract ran out on June 30th of this year.
In the articles I pointed out that Davis reassigning Curry was illegal because it was never put before the School Board and voted on.
I also pointed out in the series that despite Curry asking Carter and Beaumont the reason he was being non-renewed and reassigned, he was never given one in writing nor verbally.
Because of that, I decided to make a comparison between Curry and Southside Football Coach Kim Dameron and published an article with the findings on December 19th, 2024.
What I discovered was the two Coaches basically mirrored each other….with one obvious exception.
According to the District there was no record of either man –
Violating terms of their contract.
Violating District Policies.
Having complaints filed against them.
Having grievances filed against them.
Having been suspended.
Curry has had no disciplinary issues and all good evaluations. I did not have access to that information for Coach Dameron, but out of an abundance of fairness, I made the assumption that he had the same.
In Curry’s three seasons at Northside, he has gone 4-7, 2-9 and 2-9 with an overall record of 8-25 which gave him a 24% winning percentage.
Dameron, at the time, had five seasons at Southside. In his first three he went 2-9, 2-9 and 4-7 with an overall record of 8-25 which gave him a 24% winning percentage….The same as Curry.
In Dameron’s last two seasons he has gone 7-5 and 4-6 for a five-season overall record of 19-36 which gives him an overall 34.5% winning percentage.
As I said the two Coaches mirrored each other with one obvious exception, right ?
Curry is most definitely Black….and Dameron is most definitely White.
Now fast forward to February 18th of this year when Curry’s well-known Bulldawg attorney, Joey McCutchen, filed a lawsuit in Sebastian County Circuit Court on his behalf for the District illegally reassigning Curry.
Court records from December 11th show that the District admitted that they illegally reassigned Curry and were willing to sign an Agreed Order stating that.
In short, they ran out of road and had no choice but to admit the truth.
So, end of story, right ?
On Tuesday Curry and McCutcheon looked the District in the eye and said guess what Boys ?….We ain’t done yet.
That’s when they amended the lawsuit adding racial discrimination claiming the District’s actions against Curry were motivated in whole or part by his race.
McCutcheon not only took the comparison with Dameron into account in the filing, he also noted District Coaches win/loss records in the other major sport besides Football which is Basketball.

The race of the Coaches of these teams ?…..All White….Yet none of them were terminated through non-renewal of their yearly contracts.
Now I gotta tell ya establishing racial discrimination for me is a very high bar and it should be for everyone.
I truly get sick of people claiming racial discrimination every time the wind blows….It’s demeaning to real racial discrimination.
So, in Curry’s case is this truly racial ?
Honestly, I don’t know.
But you can’t ignore all the factual evidence, which is….Black and White.
